Commission - Part Two

60th anniversary table card place

I was recently commissioned by private clients to make invitation cards and table place cards on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. What a thrilling project it was! First because it is not everyday one meets a lovely couple who celebrate 60 years of marriage, and second because it led to my playing with symbols. In my previous post you can find the illustration I made for the invitation cards, and here above there is my illustration for the table place cards. As the background was too bright and prevented a clear perceptibility of the diamond I changed it for a darker blue (see below). What is it with these birds? Well, they are Eurasian cranes; they are monogamous for life, and they are symbols of longevity and fidelity. I also love drawing birds :)

Fly Home

A drawing or a painting is like a mouthwatering meat in a marinade - marinated vegetables for vegetarians - and a bottle of good old wine. It needs time to mature, and its creator needs to be patient, really patient. The more time I spend on a work of mine, the more chance there is that I will be satisfied with it. That is why the blog update was put off for so long, do forgive me.

What you see above is taken from my sketchbook. The draft is quite different from the final work; inspiration came after the sketches had been done. I realized that I wanted to elaborate on the feathers, and avoid letting the bird fly into nothingness.

Works consigned to oblivion I

This month I will post the illustrations that I started in 2011, and completely forgot to finish at the time. The first one I want to show you is Super Petit Coq, in full colour.

The sidebar's new dwellers

Here they are! It can be finally settled that the new blog's design is once and for all finished. A couple of months ago, the sidebar - where all the links are displayed - had changed its clothes; today, I would like you to meet the new dwellers. The 'twitter bird' button and the 'copyright bird-eater' button have been changed, and I like them better this way!

A day in Bruges

It dawns on me that my outing to Bruges last Sunday, was the very last one before my starting the new academic year. Actually, I have not taken in yet that next week will be the end of my Summer holidays - what a terrible blow it is going to be! I will have to say goodbye to the dear lie-ins everyday of the week, and will have to study very hard. Anyway, I must keep my spirits up! Bruges is a picturesque town where one must surely takes delight in living. Every house possesses gigantic windows; shafts of light shine on the rooms, and enable to enhance the space inside - would love to live in one of these houses one day. As you can see, loads of photos were taken while I was wandering in the streets of Bruges - very inspiring I must say!
