Fly Home

A drawing or a painting is like a mouthwatering meat in a marinade - marinated vegetables for vegetarians - and a bottle of good old wine. It needs time to mature, and its creator needs to be patient, really patient. The more time I spend on a work of mine, the more chance there is that I will be satisfied with it. That is why the blog update was put off for so long, do forgive me.

What you see above is taken from my sketchbook. The draft is quite different from the final work; inspiration came after the sketches had been done. I realized that I wanted to elaborate on the feathers, and avoid letting the bird fly into nothingness.

Logo signature, what a torment!

logo signature

I have been working lately on new business cards and greeting cards to print out. I wanted to change the picture behind the greeting cards, and put instead a beautiful logo signature made by myself - one that I would be proud of showing off. I started off that project last June, and after months and months of sheer nightmare and boredom, I eventually made it! The one, the one and only! As I do not want all the work done behind that small trifling logo be a mere waste, this post is somewhat a heaven-sent opportunity to display it, and show that it had been an arduous undertaking to create that logo signature - I will not do it again. I sincerely hope you will like it, as I am truly weary of making another one.

Courtship Display

'Courtship Display' is definitely the illustration I spent the most of my time with - I thought I would never finish it! Very often did I hate myself for drawing so many details. Actually, I will not assert my being patient and meticulous when it comes to make something; I would love to be that kind of person as I am very fond of minutely detailed artworks in general. I feel relieved, I am so glad I have finished it. This time, I have decided to post the sketch, the drawing before being painted in, and the final picture of 'Courship Display'. Why, it is because in my opinion they are three separate works, each one being interesting to gaze at.

Work in progress

This Summer Holiday is quite productive; I am proud to say that I am not lazy, not a bit. Well, I must admit that I may sleep too much - but that's not the point. As always, I work slowly (but surely), and I am so relieved to devote my time to doing what I like the most! This time, I wanted to keep a trace of my illustrations before they get dressed in colours. Have a peep! Feel free to comment :D

I know I will like them better with colours.

'Super Petit Coq' Pattern

This is my submission for Illustration Rally's Pattern Rally. Actually, I am not done with Super Petit Coq, as the latter will see itself dressed in colours, and it will be the first illustration for my new cards series. I am also thinking of having that pattern printed on canvas tote bags - it may turns out to be lovely. So See you soon Super Petit Coq, with your garment full of colours!
